Working Sawmill Fire In Caernarvon Township

On November 3rd, 2024, Caernarvon Fire Company (Churchtown) along with mutual aid from Chester, Berks, Lancaster counties were dispatched to the 100 block of N. Red School Road in Caernarvon Township Lancaster County for a barn fire.

Caernarvon Fire Company units and mutual aid made the response and were advised by the Lancaster County 911 Center that the caller was a newspaper delivery person. Additional callers reported a fire behind a building.

Caernarvon Township Fire Company units arrived to confirm a well involved sawmill building on fire. Chief 34 arrived and assumed command for this incident and requested a 2nd alarm assignment along with a tanker task force. Caernarvon Township Fire Company units began suppression efforts. As mutual aid units arrived, they were given their assignments by the commander. Ambulance 89 provided rehab and stood-by at the scene while fire personnel attempted to bring the blaze under control.

The fire was placed under control with all hands working. Unfortunately, due to the progression of the fire prior to the arrival of the fire department the building was a total loss.

Ambulance 89 cleared the scene a few hours later. .
