On Tuesday October 15th, Chief Welch, EMT Brooks and Volunteer and EMT Student Emma attended the Berks Business Education Coalition business and education summit at the Redner’s Event Center in Reading. Emma came to our organization as part of the job shadow program at Daniel Boone High School and ended up joining our apprenticeship/internship program. This program allows students to obtain school credit while they do ‘ride alongs’ or they can obtain school credit while becoming volunteers with Elverson Honey Brook EMS providing the support as they obtain their EMT certification. Emma is one of three students currently enrolled in this program.
At the BBEC Business and Education Summit, many students and their host businesses were honored. Emma has become a welcome addition to our department. Emma was awarded the Daniel Boone Internship Award as part of this program. Additional speakers included:
Senator David Argall chair of PA Education Committee Dr. Jill Hackman, Executive Director BCIU Andrew Potteiger, Superintendent of Brandywine Heights SD Kimberly Schneider, BP Talent Acquisition Tower Health Dr. Michael Stauffer, Executive Director BCTC And many more.
We are exceptionally proud of all the hard work that our volunteers, interns, and apprentices have put into our organization. They continue to show a bright future for EMS. Programs like these help students develop skills critical to a successful transition into adulthood including critical thinking, problem solving, communication, teamwork, time management, and resilience. We congratulate Emma on her ongoing excellence, her Daniel Boone Internship Award, and look forward to seeing her continue her journey. |
