Service Dog Alerts Her Owner Of A Fire In The Apartment In Caernarvon Township-Lancaster County

On March 17th, 2025, at 18:18 Caernarvon Fire Company (Churchtown) along with area mutual aid fire companies and Elverson-Honey Brook EMS were dispatched to the 500 block of Twin County Road in Caernarvon Township for a building fire.
Caernarvon Fire Company units along with the mutual aid made the response and were advised by the Lancaster County 911 Center that the caller reported that her stove was on fire and that the fire was spreading to her cabinets.
Caernarvon Fire Company units along with mutual aid arrived to find smoke showing from an apartment building. Interior crews reported a working kitchen fire, and the crews worked collaboratively to extinguish the fire. Chief 34 held the command for this incident and as additional units arrived on the scene, they were assigned various task such as searches, ventilation, salvage and overhaul. Thanks to the quick response by the fire companies the fire was held to only one apartment and no injuries were reported. Ambulance 189 arrived and evaluated 1 subject and then stood-by while the firefighters were operating at the scene. The occupant of the apartment advised that her service dog (Mona) alerted her to the fire as she was asleep when the fire broke out.
Ambulance 189 cleared the scene at 19:14.
