July 23, 2026

This afternoon at approximately 4:15 p.m., Elverson Honey Brook Area EMS personnel assisted with a serious motor vehicle crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The vehicle left the roadway, traveled up an embankment, struck the guide rail, and came to rest with the driver trapped inside. At the time of the incident, all Elverson Honey Brook Area EMS ambulances were committed to other emergency calls throughout our service area. Chief 89 (Welch) responded to the scene alongside our mutual aid partners from Westwood EMS, Twin Valley Fire Department, TowerDIRECT Critical Care Transport Unit, and Caernarvon Township Police Department.

Chief 69 arrived first and confirmed that one occupant was trapped and unconscious. Chief Welch arrived moments later and immediately began providing patient care with the assistance of several bystanders who had stopped to help. Twin Valley Fire Department quickly completed the technical rescue, allowing the patient to be safely extricated and transferred to Westwood EMS Ambulance 244 for continued treatment and transport.

Incidents like this are a powerful reminder of why strong mutual aid partnerships are so important. While our ambulances were serving other emergencies, neighboring agencies responded without hesitation to ensure this patient received immediate, high-quality care. The seamless coordination between fire, EMS, law enforcement, critical care, and bystanders demonstrated the professionalism, dedication, and teamwork that define emergency services in our region.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Westwood EMS, Twin Valley Fire Department, TowerDIRECT, Caernarvon Township Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Turnpike personnel, and the witnesses who stepped forward to assist before emergency responders arrived. Working together, we are able to provide the highest level of care when our communities need it most.

We wish the patient a full and speedy recovery.
